Who is Sebil?

I am Sebil, 32 years old, married and living in Hamburg, my home of choice. I'm known for my outspoken nature and my bad jokes.

A brief journey into my past

I first came into contact with web design when I was twelve years old. Back then I was a really cool rapper and wanted to spruce up my MySpace page. I discovered my new hobby. A bit of fiddling with HTML and CSS quickly turned into pixel-pushing with Photoshop and Flash. This was my creative heyday.

When the serious side of life finally hit me, I didn't know where to go. After tenth grade, I spontaneously decided to attend a media school. That was what I was trained to do. There I got to know the whole spectrum of media production. From photography and film to print and web. My hobby became my profession.

After a six-month internship, a completed apprenticeship, six years as a designer in digital agencies, one year in a start-up for sports marketing and seven years as a developer in the most successful independent advertising agency in Germany, I can now say: I would rather have been a rapper.

All joking aside. I love my job. Even if it can be demanding at times. I'm only as good as I am today because I'm constantly facing new challenges.

What defines me

Excellent quality

Seven years at Jung von Matt have shaped me. This is reflected in my work. I don't believe in "it'll be OK". As long as the work doesn't meet my own standards, I won't hand it over. This applies to all my services, from development through design to consulting.

An eye for good design

My background as a designer helps me to think aesthetically as well as technically. I have a good sense of colour, shape and typography. Good design has a fundamental impact on the user experience of a website and is therefore an important part of my work.

Working in a team

For me, teamwork isn't just about sharing the work. It is about supporting each other, learning from each other and growing together. I play a key role in ensuring that the atmosphere in the team is kept positive and that motivation is constantly at a high level.

Natural authority

One of my teachers once told me that I was "naturally authoritarian". This means that I am a person who likes to take responsibility and make decisions. I communicate clearly and unambiguously, I know when to speak and when to keep quiet, and I am sensitive and tactful in my approach.

Openness and transparency

I am an open-minded person and like to communicate - on an equal footing. I believe that openness and transparency are the basis of a healthy feedback culture. That is why I am open about my mistakes. If I don't lead by example, I can't expect others to, can I?

A lot of humor

A sense of humor can not only make working more enjoyable, it can also be a great icebreaker in unfamiliar situations. I like to use puns, have a penchant for metaphors and know (far too) many memes. I also love dad jokes. Do you? Feel free to tell me one during our first conversation!

Don't repeat
yourself.
Reusable components - both in the code and in the design - increase readability and maintainability.
Form Follows
Function.
Design should not be a goal in itself, but rather support and simplify the function being designed.
First solve the problem.
Then write the code.
Before going into practice, the problem should first be internalized and solved in theory.
Good design
is invisible.
The product should be so smooth and intuitive to use that the user gets where they want to go without distraction.
Don't repeat
